In the 1980s, the French Supertourism Championship took on a Group B look with the appearance of Superproduction cars. These powerful and visually impressive cars were derived from production cars. At Renault, the 1985 season saw the arrival of the R5 Production. Then, in 87, three R5 SuperProduction cars were entered for the entire championship. They were entrusted to Erik Comas, Jean Ragnotti and Jean-Louis Bousquet! The body-built R5 won the championship with Comas at the wheel, while Bousquet finished fifth.
